How Do SANY All-Terrain and Rough-Terrain Cranes Differ?

SANY all-terrain cranes are worth evaluating when travel between sites and lifting at varied locations both matter. Rough-terrain cranes put the emphasis on maneuvering and lifting around a jobsite. Choose by the required transport pattern, site access and load chart, rather than assuming that either name guarantees suitability for every surface.

SANY lists these as separate crane categories. Its selection guidance distinguishes longer transfers from frequent short movements on rough sites, while also requiring attention to ground conditions and operating radius.

What do two similarly rated models show?

A shared maximum lifting figure does not make two crane configurations equivalent. The following examples illustrate the difference without treating them as a matched offer for one destination market:

Reference model Manufacturer category Published maximum capacity Published maximum main boom length
SAC600E, UK reference All-terrain crane 60,000 kg 50.00 m
SRC600C, global reference Rough-terrain crane 60,000 kg 43.50 m

These figures come from separate SANY model pages checked on 11 October 2026. The SAC600E UK page identifies a three-axle carrier and states its headline capacity at a 3 m radius. Neither row establishes capacity at maximum boom extension, and the table does not confirm a US-market configuration or local road eligibility.

How should travel requirements influence the shortlist?

Start by separating travel between projects from movement inside the project. Give the supplier the transfer distance, expected frequency, access constraints and proposed delivery method.

For an all-terrain offer, ask for the actual road-travel configuration, axle-loading information and any separately transported equipment. Do not assume that a road-capable carrier may travel on every route with every counterweight or attachment installed.

For a rough-terrain offer, ask how it will reach the site and which movements are permitted once there. Transport arrangements, dimensions and mass need to be assessed for the offered model; off-road capability alone does not answer the delivery question.

Which load-chart details decide whether the crane fits?

The useful lifting figure is the permitted load at the required radius, height and configuration. A headline maximum capacity is only a starting reference.

Provide the load mass and dimensions, pickup and landing positions, required height and available setup area. Request the relevant chart for the proposed boom arrangement, counterweight, outrigger position and working sector. Have the responsible lifting planner account for the applicable hook and rigging arrangements.

Keep the machine identity and chart together. A chart for a similarly named model, another market or a different configuration should not be used to fill a gap in the quotation.

Does either type remove the need for a ground assessment?

No. The carrier category does not establish ground bearing capacity or a suitable support arrangement. Provide information about the route, setup area, gradients and any underground or structural constraints to the team assessing the site.

Ask for the loading information required for that assessment. General descriptions such as rough-terrain or all-terrain do not replace the manufacturer's operating limits or a project-specific lifting plan.

What should you request before comparing prices?

Request a complete model and configuration list, load charts, transport details, included attachments and documentation. For used equipment, add the year, serial number, service history and inspection records to the comparison.

Browse our SANY equipment listings and identify whether your enquiry concerns an all-terrain or rough-terrain crane. Include both the lifting task and the travel requirement so the offer can be assessed against the actual project rather than a maximum-capacity label.
