A Caterpillar 323 does not have one weight that applies to every configuration. Cat's North American 07H technical specifications list selected operating configurations from 23,000 kg to 25,500 kg. For transport planning, confirm the actual machine configuration and delivery condition, then check the complete-machine height, length and undercarriage width.
The examples below use document AEXQ3985-02, dated November 2025, checked on 12 October 2026. They are reference configurations for that edition, not specifications for every 323 generation or an individual used machine.
Why do the operating-weight figures differ?
The technical document identifies the components behind each weight. These selected rows use a long undercarriage and 0.79 m heavy-duty track shoes:
| Reference configuration | Counterweight | Operating weight |
|---|---|---|
| Reach boom, R2.9 reach stick, 1.19 m³ HD bucket | 4,200 kg | 23,000 kg |
| Reach boom, R2.9 reach stick, 1.38 m³ HD bucket | 5,400 kg | 25,000 kg |
| HD reach boom, R2.9 HD thumb-ready reach stick, 1.38 m³ HD bucket | 5,400 kg | 25,500 kg |
The document states that its operating weights include a 90% fuel tank and a 75 kg operator. An operating-weight row is therefore not automatically a measured shipment mass. Confirm the fitted components, fuel condition and separately shipped equipment with the supplier and carrier.
Cat's current US product page also lists 25,000 kg, with a configuration note. That figure should be read with its note rather than treated as a contradiction of the other documented configurations.
Is the cab height the transport height you need?
Not necessarily. The same technical edition separates the cab from the installed working equipment. In its 5.7 m Reach/HD Reach boom, R2.9B1 stick and 1.19 m³ HD bucket dimension column, it lists:
| Dimension field | Reference value |
|---|---|
| Top of cab | 2.96 m |
| Height with boom, stick and bucket installed | 3.16 m |
| Length with boom, stick and bucket installed | 9.53 m |
| Undercarriage width with 0.79 m shoes | 3.17 m |
| Undercarriage width with 0.60 m shoes | 2.98 m |
These dimensions belong to the stated reference column and shoe alternatives. They should not be attached automatically to every weight row above. The document also says dimensions are approximate and can vary with bucket selection.
Using only cab height could miss a higher part of the transported equipment. Request the actual delivery arrangement and its highest point before assessing clearances with the carrier.
What should you verify on a used 323?
Obtain the serial number, full model designation, year and installed-equipment list. Names such as 323, 323D or 323F should not be treated as proof that the same technical sheet applies.
Ask for photographs and identification of the boom, stick, bucket, coupler, counterweight and track shoes. If equipment will be removed for delivery, request the mass and dimensions of each shipment item and the corresponding documentation.
Our used Cat 323 listing should be checked against its actual identification. The North American 07H examples in this article do not establish that older machine's configuration or transport measurements.
What information should the carrier receive?
Provide confirmed shipment mass, dimensions, loading configuration, separate cargo and the collection and delivery constraints. Have the transport provider assess its vehicle, route and applicable requirements using those actual details. A model name and an isolated brochure weight are insufficient for booking a documented move.
